Do I need a phone number or email to use privis.app?
No. You only need a public Nickname, secret Username and a strong password. We do not ask for or store your phone number or email address.
Is privis.app really end-to-end encrypted?
In Hard Mode yes — it uses true end-to-end encryption with ECDH. In Easy Mode we use strong server-side encryption, but Hard Mode offers the strongest protection where even we cannot read the messages. Medium Mode is encrypted with a passphrase the users have agreed among themselves and without it their messages cannot be read. That passphrase does not leave their own devices and we cannot read Medium mode messages.
Can messages be automatically deleted?
Yes. All messages will be automatically deleted. You can choose the time. You can also manually delete your messages later at any time and they get deleted from both sides. This significantly reduces long-term risk.
Where are the servers located?
Our database is hosted in Frankfurt, Germany, under strict European Union data protection laws.
Is privis.app free?
Text messaging is completely free. In the future we may offer optional paid features (such as large file sharing) to support sustainable development without selling user data.
Can I use privis.app on multiple devices?
Yes. Since it runs in the browser, you can log in from any device (phone, tablet, computer) without installing anything.
What happens when I delete my account?
We will remove your account and associated data according to our data retention policy. Some technical logs may be kept for a day or two for error-handling and debug reasons.
How is privis.app different from Signal, Telegram, or WhatsApp?
Unlike most popular messengers, we do not require a phone number, do not force app installation, and do not build advertising profiles. You have more flexible encryption options and better control over message lifetime.
